Restore Your Purpose
Prayer 365 // Instrument of Purpose (Day 3)
More from this week:
Today's Scripture:
“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.” - Ezekiel 36:25-27 NLT
Today's Devotional:
An instrument is most effective when it is used for the purpose it was created to do. If it’s not being used for its purpose then the instrument is being. As instruments of purpose, we were created to bring God glory and to carry out His will in the earth. The moment we are doing anything outside of that intended purpose, we bring dishonor to the one that made us and we live a life that is unfulfilled.
The way that God describes this is as worshiping other idols. The Israelites were often called out for giving honor, affection and attention to inanimate objects that had no ability to do a thing. This angered God because they would worship a thing that they made and not the One that made them. One of the things they worshipped was a golden calf. It wasn’t the calf that freed them from bondage, it wasn’t the calf that brought them across the Red Sea, it was God! He alone parted the the waters of the sea and caused them to walk on dry land and destroyed their enemy. But instead worshipping Him, they used the gold they received from the Egyptians on their way out to build something they could see and then worshipped that thing.
While this happened often in the history of the Israelites, it’s something that’s still occurring today. We are using gifts that God has given us and we are giving honor, affection and attention to objects that did not create us nor can sustain us. Those idols are not as obvious as golden calves, but they come packaged in the form of a television, cell phones, vehicles, homes, bank accounts, careers, and even our plans and dreams. Things that were intended to be tools to help us be effective in the world, we’ve made them our focus and honor them as our source instead of our ultimate source, the One that created us.
I’m not saying that we can’t have things, God knows what we have need of and He’s faithful to provide. But can I ask you a question? Does any of those things make you feel fulfilled? Do they put anything in you? Do they restore you when you’re worn out? Do they heal you when you’re broken? Do they strengthen you when you’re weak? After getting all the things you wanted so bad and achieving all the things you’ve planned, why do you feel so empty? Is it possible that you’ve given yourself to a purpose you were not created for?
Friend... God has cleaned you, He's removed the filth from your life. Today He's declaring that you will no longer worship idols, meaning, you will no longer be used for a purpose outside of what you were originally intended for. This is the season that you begin to be fulfilled, that you walk out the purpose you were designed for. But in order to do this, you must remain submitted to Him as an instrument of His purpose. I'm praying for you because I believe that God is restoring your purpose. You see, He didn't clean you just to go back and do what you used to do. No! He cleaned you for a time such as this, that you would be restored for the very purpose that He created you for. So that in every area of your life, you would bring Him the glory that's due to Him. Because He did not make you to exist, but He made you for abundant living, He made you to thryve. But the only way you can do this is by living out the purpose you were created for, by placing your life in the hands of the one that created it.
I'm praying for you and with you,
