Just a Sprinkle
Prayer 365 // Instrument of Purpose (Day 2)
More from this week:
Today's Scripture:
“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.” - Ezekiel 36:25-27 NLT
Today's Devotional:
The theme for this week of devotion and prayer is "Instrument of Purpose." Our goal this week is to help you embrace your identity as an instrument of purpose so that you can effectively flow in the rhythms of grace.
One of the key things that hinder people from being used by God is the thought that we need to clean ourselves before being used. So many people have spent years avoiding the God and the church because they are often thinking about the need to get their self together before coming into relationship with God. While it sounds convincing, it couldn’t be further away from the truth. The need to be clean is real, but the process of cleaning is something that we just don’t have the resources to carry out effectively.
I must remind you that God has chosen you as an instrument of purpose. This is not an application process but an appointment process. There’s no need for your resume when God has already paved the way for you. But as true as this may be, it’s often hard to see when you look in the mirror can’t seem to see beyond the damages on your heart, the corrosion in your character, the scratches in your trust, the dents in your love, and the shame of your mistakes. It’s hard to see your purpose when your past is blocking the path to your future.
This is where God comes in. He does for us what we clearly could not do for ourselves. Let’s take a look at this in our text for the day: Ezekiel 36:25 says “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away.” There’s two things I want you to see in this verse. The first is the most clear to see, God cleans His instruments. As a masterful composer and musician , He ensures that any instrument that’s used in His symphony is carefully prepared and maintained for optimal use. In other words, He takes care of what belongs to Him if we let Him.
The second thing isn’t as obvious as the first but I find it to be most intriguing. You see, we often focus on the miracle but overlook the method. The miracle is in the cleansing but the power is in the method. Look at how God does this, He says “...I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean.” God doesn’t achieve this with elaborate steps or intense cycles, instead He carries out our cleansing in an effortless way. Being limitless in power, He could’ve easily poured out the ocean but instead He uses is just a sprinkle.
He said “Your filth will be washed away.” What I want you to see is that God is able to do in a moment, what you’ve been trying to do for the last 30 years. Yes! He can do with a sprinkle what man will waste a lifetime trying to correct. He has the power to remove the filth - the damage of abuse, rejection, heart break and all other damages and the shame that follows it. He doesn’t need a lot, all He needs is just a sprinkle.
Prayer focus: That you would receive the cleansing power of God’s grace through sprinkle of His water.
