Build Resilience: The Bounce Back
Don't Get it Twisted (Day 4) // Prayer365
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” - Isaiah 41:10 NLT
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” - Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
This week we’ve walked through this powerful theme called “Don’t Get it Twisted!” Because it's the enemy's desire to twist what God has deemed as good. We've been giving practical steps to overcoming the twists of the enemy:
Day 1 - Resist the Twist
Day 2 - Who’s King in Your Life? (Submit before you resist)
Day 3 - Study Subtle Shifts
Day 4 - Reverse the Twist
Today I want to encourage you to build resilience.
About 3 years ago we experienced one of the worst storms to hit Florida’s, it was hurricane Irma. There were 84 fatalities and $50 billion in damages. Our streets were filled with debris, uprooted trees and broken limbs. Many people were forced to be without electricity for days and some weeks causing the loss of food. Jobs lost because buildings were destroyed and some businesses never recovered. Our state, our home was in a twisted state. It was unrecognizable in many ways, nothing was normal.
I’m an employee of the State of Florida and working with the state in providing relief to those affected by the storm, there was a word that was often used to describe the state of Florida, that word is resilient. Meaning that we had ability to revert to original size and shape after being stretched, squeezed, or twisted. In other words we have the ability to bounce back! And it’s true because looking at our state today, even in the middle of a pandemic, we don’t anything look like what we’ve been through.
I want you to know that resilience is not just a word to describe Floridians, but it’s a word that describes the believer. Yes the children of God, the followers of Jesus, this is a word that really describes each of us. In our text we find why we are resilient, God tells us in Isaiah 41:10, “Don’t be afraid…” I know that after you’ve been twisted in life and affected by hurt, pain and disappointment, that many times it will cause you to not want to go back through it again and it’ll leave fear inside of you. Causing you to say things like "I’m not letting anyone else in. I’m not going to go down that road again.” God says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Then in Proverbs 3:5-6 He said, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Friend, we have a mighty God that gives us the ability to bounce back. How do you know that you have a bounce back in your spirit? Because the same Spirit in you is the same Spirit that is in Jesus Christ and Jesus is the epitome of a bounce back. He came into a twisted world, rejected by His own creation, placed on a cross, beaten until He was unrecognizable, yet there was nothing that could keep Him down! There was a bounce back in Jesus! On the third day, He rose again. Understand that the same bounce back, that same resilience that is in our Savior is inside the believer! Yes, there’s a bounce back inside of you!
What you went through is nothing to be compared with where God is taking you. What you experienced is not worthy to be compared with the glory that shall be revealed within you. I want you say aloud this morning, “I have a bounce back in my spirit because I serve the God of the bounce back!” I’m praying for you today! Praying for your strength! That you would acknowledge that you are resilient, meaning because of the power of God, you have the ability to revert back to your original shape after being stretched, squeezed or twisted.
You ought to say, “Devil, you thought you were doing something but you didn’t know who I was made by! You didn’t know what I was made of! I am resilient and and I have a bounce back!” Life may have twisted you but that’s not the end! God has power to strengthen and help you! You will bounce back because the God of the bounce back lives inside of you!
Prayer Focus: Receive and activate the resilient power of God’s grace.
I’m praying for you and with you,
