The Limitless Power of God
The Place of Grace (Day 3) // Prayer365
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." - Ephesians 3:20-21 NIV
Our theme for this week is The Place of Grace. Monday, we embraced the undeniable truth that God is limitless and we are not. From that foundation we are now focusing on three areas of His limitlessness: love, power and wisdom. Yesterday we spoke about His limitless love and today we will talk about the limitless power of God.
As humans, being made in the image of God, we have a great desire to create, build, and improve things in life. We even have a tendency to try to meet every need that comes before us without understanding that we are limited in nature and there’s only so much we can do.
There’s a big problem that came into and has been a problem since the start of time and it’s called sin. It began with our forefather, Adam and has trickled down through the generations and is still a problem today. And this problem, known as sin has become greater than we can bear. From the start, God has watched sin tear through the world. He didn’t become reactive, but instead He was proactive. We know this because He had already planned, before the foundation of the world, the salvation of the world through Jesus Christ (Read Ephesians 1:4-6). But here’s the challenge: This isn’t just God addressing it from the beginning, but Him meeting us in the thick of it.
Have you ever seen a snowball on a cartoon where it starts at the top of the hill and as it rolls down it gradually gets bigger and bigger until it’s larger than the person or thing it crashes into? Sin has been a lot like that snowball; over the course of time it has become more wicked, wiser, greater and stronger. But in the midst of this, God responded. It was one man that brought sin into the world. How amazing it would be if God in turn, used one man (being all man + God in one - Jesus). This is amazing because through one man, this gift of grace, shown through Jesus Christ, was able to come when sin was at its greatest. He was able to deal with sin all by Himself.
Today, I want you to see the limitless power of God. He is able to do immeasurably more than what we can ask or even imagine. You see, while in the middle of sin, the only thing we know is that the sin is pressing on top of us. We are aware of the sin, aware of our mistakes and our inability to overcome it. We could not fathom or think of a fix to this problem, however God was able to look beyond our faults and see our needs and have a plan to prepare us for Himself — a plan manifested through the person of Jesus Christ.
I hope this encourages you! Seeing how God was able to overcome sin through Jesus, how He was able to overcome our debt of sin through the payment of the blood of Jesus - God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. The scripture also says “according to His power that is at work within us.” I want you to think about this: it’s not just one within one person, nor a couple of people or even a just small group of people, but God has deposited His power inside all of His people. Isn’t that amazing? That His power is not limited to one person but through His Holy Spirit, God is able to do a work inside of all of the people throughout the entire world. God is able to do immeasurably more!
Everything that you have looked at through the lens of defeat, saying that “I just can’t do this!” Everything you have seen and you felt that you were not enough. I encourage you to do as Paul did in our text by saying: I won’t try to onto this all by myself, it’s more more than I can do on my own, but I say “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
God’s power is limitless. He is not limited by our sin, nor by our thoughts but God’s power is limitless. I encourage you to defer everything you’ve been fighting to the unlimited power of God. He’s able to do immeasurably more! You cannot even wrap your mind around what God can do in the Place of Grace.
