Hunger Pains

Focus Scripture

"In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work." — John 4:31-34 NIV

Introduction

We are not here by chance. Instead, we have been planted with purpose. That purpose is found in the good, perfect and pleasing will of God. Millions of people around the world are experiencing hunger pains and are trying to satisfy them with empty solutions. However, as long as this purpose remains unfulfilled, we will continue to experience a deep sense of discomfort within our souls. This week's theme for our daily prayer and devotion is titled "Hunger Pains." Each day of the week we will discover how to satisfy the hunger of our souls.

This Week's Devotionals:

Day 1: You are Hungry

When the human body goes without food for an extended period of time, it begins to cycle through its digestive process. This event causes a sense of discomfort from within that we call hunger pains (or better said, hunger pangs). This is the body sending a message to the brain that it's time to refuel so that it can continue. Within every person in this world is an active hunger that lives deep within them. A hunger that cannot be satisfied by food, sex, money, power, drugs, likes, followers or any thing available in this world. This hunger originates beyond the flesh and resides in the spirit. It's a hunger to fulfill the directive embedded in our design as described in Genesis 1:26. Here we find God's original intent for man:

"Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”" — Genesis 1:26 NIV

Today, I want you to know that you are indeed hungry. But the hunger you're experiencing is deeper than any physical pleasure can reach. This hunger resides in your spirit and it's time to feed it.
